Derek is a Managing Partner in Holden & Montejano's Houston office. He received his undergraduate degree from Baylor University with a major in History. He received his Juris Doctorate degree from the South Texas College of Law. Derek is an experienced litigator in labor and employment law, corporate law, commercial litigation, regulatory/administrative law, securities law, and sports law. He also provides outside general counsel services to companies ranging from recognizable, national, multi-unit restaurant franchisors to small startup companies across the state of Texas. Derek is admitted to practice in Texas State Courts as well as the United States District Courts for the Northern, Southern, Eastern, and Western Districts of Texas, the Northern District of Indiana, the Northern District of Florida, and the United States Court of Appeals, 5th Circuit.
Derek regularly advocates on behalf of clients before various state and federal regulatory agencies. His experience includes representation, advice, and counseling related to matters pending before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA), the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the Occupational Safety Health Administration (OSHA), the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the Texas State Securities Board (TSSB), the Texas State Office of Administrative Hearings (SOAH), the Texas Work Force Commission (TWC), the United States Department of Labor (DOL), the United States Department of Defense (DoD), and the National Football League Players Association (NFLPA).

Derek is a former Chief Prosecutor for one of the largest District Attorney Offices in the United States, the Harris County District Attorney’s Office in Houston, Texas. In that capacity, he gained extensive experience, knowledge, and skill litigating and investigating white-collar crimes and commercial fraud matters. His distinctive history as a former prosecutor affords his clients a unique prospective when it comes to investigating, evaluating, and litigating cases.
