General County Information

County Seat: Coalgate

Formerly a part of Tobucksy County, Choctaw Nation, Coal County is located in southeastern Oklahoma and was created at statehood and named for the primary economic product of the region. Coal mining was once the major industry of the county, but has been dormant since 1958.
